Calling young people of South Auckland
10 June 2019

Pacific Island youth and young people of South Auckland who are passionate about improving their communities are encouraged to register for the MYSTORY Pacific Youth Summit, to be held 21-22 June at the Holiday Inn Hotel in Mangere.
The Summit “Born to make an impact” is an extension of the MYSTORY project designed to bring Pacific youth and young people together along with their parents and families to share their stories.
Earlier this year MYSTORY collected youth voice from over 700 surveys at the ASB Auckland Polyfest event. From these surveys, young people have identified four of the top challenges they face as a Pasifika young people in New Zealand. Education was the top challenge, followed by Employment, Wellbeing, and Culture.
The focus of the Summit is on young people understanding these challenges by sharing personal stories.
This Summit is also a call for everyone to listen and to act on what they have heard so they are able to respond to stories shared by young people and use their voice to strengthen their work, and to resolve issues facing young people in South Auckland today.
The MYSTORY project came about through a community conversation two years ago and has since been further developed by young people in the South Auckland community.
This year marks a two year journey since the inception of the MYSTORY project.
The Summit is sponsored by the Ministry of Education, in collaboration with SouthSeas Healthcare and co-curated with the MYSTORY Youth Interns. It provides a platform for amplifying youth, whanāu and community voice, and will hopefully lead to a proactive call to action based on the stories of solutions shared.
Over 200 South Auckland Pacific youth are expected to attend the summit, along with their families.
