Children’s Minister Hon Tracey Martin visits Otara
02 December 2018
SouthSeas Healthcare recently hosted Minister Martin with specific attention on sharing with the Minister the stories from staff, and especially from the programmes which are child-focussed.
SouthSeas Healthcare CEO Silao Vaisola-Sefo says SouthSeas have been delivering the Well Child Tamariki Ora service for nearly 20 years.
“We currently have 3,000 children in the programme and with this volume of participants this was an opportunity for Minister Martin to hear stories from our front-line staff about their experiences.”
“SouthSeas staff visit around 30 families daily through this service and the stories shared by the team about what they see is disheartening. We wanted to share these harsh realities with the Minister, to bring our families voices to the table.”
Silao says it was also a great opportunity for staff to provide insight into how the sector might best serve the needs of Pacific communities, and especially the youth. It was equally valuable to hear Minister Martin’s vision for all children in Aotearoa.
Minister Martin acknowledged staff for their services and their commitment to the South Auckland community, with kind words about the availability and the range of programmes offered to children and young people through SouthSeas’ work.
“We are appreciative that Minister Martin was able to join us in conversation and look forward to further developing our relationship over the coming year,” says Silao.
Minister Martin has leadership in the following three portfolios: Seniors, Children and Internal Affairs, and is the Associate Minister of Education.
