Food plays a central role in the lives of Pacific peoples.

Exercising regularly in addition to maintaining a healthy weight and regularly eating a well-balanced diet helps prevent high cholesterol, high blood pressure, diabetes and obesity.

The SouthSeas rush hour programme helps to support Pacific families to exercise, live healthily and independently and helps families to be confident and resourceful in their health and well-being.

“Our morning rush hour programme is dependent on social contact, bringing people together through group activities and exercise,” says Shaun Tautali, SouthSeas Public Health Team Leader.

“We empower those wanting to work out to make decisions about their health, and support them to have fun with exercise and make decisions about their own wellbeing.”

Shaun says the benefits of taking part in this programme are to learn more about exercising both mental and physical activity. “Learning and adapting these skills can be mentally challenging but we can ensure that you are receiving the right advice and education.”

“Our rush hour community programme is from 6.00am to 8.00am on Monday, Wednesday and Friday every week at the Otara Pool and Leisure Centre, and involves basketball, fastball, boxfit and indoor power walking for those willing to work out in the morning.”

“Whether it’s walking, joining a community fitness class, or heading to an exercise gym facility, getting amongst like-minded people while getting active is a fantastic way to keep socially active and healthy. We encourage our South Auckland families to join us” says Shaun.

SouthSeas Healthcare is committed to supporting the South Auckland community in their fight to keep well, and stay fit and healthy to ensure a long and happy life.

This free programme is available to Pacific families and individuals living in the Counties Manukau area.
