Kiribati flavour in SouthSeas

23 July 2018

Some of the delicious treats provided by SouthSeas for staff in celebration of Kiribati Independence Day

SouthSeas Healthcare recently honoured the services of their Kiribati staff by putting on a special celebration to acknowledge and celebrate Kiribati Independence Day.

Celebrating Kiribati’s independence is also a way to acknowledge their language, culture and identity in New Zealand.

Staff who were part of the celebration said that this is a great way to value the diversity of employees’ ethnicities at SouthSeas.

Staff engaged and embraced the Kiribati culture by wearing the colours of Kiribati’s flag and had a shared lunch to round off the celebration.

The 2013 Census recorded the population of Kiribati people living in New Zealand as 2,115.

The majority of Kiribati communities live in Auckland, with large numbers residing in Hamilton, Wellington, Hawkes Bay, Taranaki, the Bay of Plenty, and also in the South Island.

Kiribati staff thanked SouthSeas for their support, participation, and preparations to commemorate their special day.

The day was packed with Kiribati flavour and was a fantastic way to acknowledge Kiribati staff serving in SouthSeas.
