Pasifika Festival 2020 dates announced
19 August 2019
Auckland’s iconic Pasifika Festival is set to return to Western Springs on Saturday 14 and Sunday 15 March at Western Springs Park, Auckland after its cancellation last year following the terrible events in Christchurch.
Pasifika Festival is a free, family-friendly event celebrating the diverse cultures of Auckland’s Pacific communities and is an annual celebration that unites Pacific cultures through incredible performances, delicious food and drink, arts and crafts, workshops and more.
There will be 11 villages, each representing a different Pacific Island culture, with delicious authentic foods, arts and crafts stalls and demonstrations, traditional and contemporary Pacific Island music and performances.
Food stalls will be open an hour earlier at 9am.
The island villages represented are Fiji, Aotearoa, Kiribati, Hawaii, Niue, Samoa, Tahiti, Tokelau, Tonga, Tuvalu and the Cook Islands. Each has their own drawcard events and activities.
There will also be a Pacific business section displaying popular products from the Pacific Islands. There will be a variety of stalls from islands-based companies who will be pitching and advertising local products for the market in New Zealand and international markets.
Items range from clothing, handicrafts, coconut oils, coffee, to organic skincare ranges and many more. This is a great day out for Pacific families and organisers who are advising the public to make use of public transportation and not forget a hat, water bottle, sunscreen and good walking shoes.
The festival starts at the earlier hour of 9am on Saturday; while Sunday will begin with the traditional Pasifika interdenominational church service at 10am, with choir groups performing.
This is a smoke and alcohol-free event. For more information visit https://www.aucklandnz.com/pasifika-festival
