With winter approaching, you should consider the range of information support at the Counties Manukau or the Ministry of Health websites about how you can prevent the spread of common winter illnesses such as colds and flu.
There are simple things you and your family can do to stop the spread of winter illnesses at home, school, or in your workplace, and to protect yourself and others from getting sick.
Here are ways some basic prevention tips to help prevent the spread of common illnesses:
- Wash and dry your hands thoroughly
- Contain your coughs and sneezes
- Avoid close contact with sick people
- Keep warm, healthy, and exercise regularly
- Avoid crowded places as much as possible
- Don’t share personal items such as utensils, including glasses or plates with others, and use separate towels in the bathroom
There is no quick cure for a cold. If it strikes, you should get lots of rest and drink plenty of fluids.
