Rugby legends heart-warming match

07 September 2019

Pacific Legends prematch on-field pep talk.

The clash of the Pacific and NZ rugby stars in a legendary curtain-raiser match as a precursor to the All Blacks vs Tonga match captured the hearts of many fans at FMG Stadium Waikato today.

The competitive spirit of the New Zealand Barbarian Legends saw them win by two points against the Pacific Legends (33-31) in a fun, heart-warming match organised to raise awareness of the diabetes and obesity epidemic affecting many New Zealand communities, and especially the Pacific Island and Māori communities.

SouthSeas Healthcare CEO Lemalu Silao Vaisola-Sefo who played for the Pacific Legends squad says regardless of the score, both teams went hard on the field in an effort to promote better health and wellbeing among our communities.

“The game was surreal. It means a lot to me to be part of the squad and to represent the work we do in SouthSeas providing a range of care to our families and community in South Auckland.”

“I am humbled to be part of this great cause and I’m proud of the boys going hard on the field after years off training. There’s lots of tired bodies but we feel blessed to be part of this amazing match to raise more awareness of the health and wellbeing of our communities.”

“The focus now is keeping up this momentum and to keep pushing messages about healthy living. It’s never too late to get active and change your lifestyle.”

Although the NZ Barbarian Legends squad coach La’auli Sir Michael Jones shook hands with Tana Umaga (Pacific Legends Squad coach), and a rematch is certainly in the pipeline.

SouthSeas Healthcare would like to wish the All Blacks and the Pacific Rugby Teams competing in the World Cup 2019 the best of luck.
