Smile and say ‘ni hao!’
02 October 2018
It was New Zealand Chinese Language Week last month (23 – 29 September) and SouthSeas Healthcare have been getting into the spirit of celebrating language, culture and diversity in the workplace.
“We celebrated Chinese Language Week by learning a variety of beautiful Chinese cultural ways to relaxing music,” says Tule Tuinauvai SouthSeas Healthcare Office Manager.
“We have Chinese staff who talked about their lineage and connections through speeches and presentations to staff as our way of celebration. Also, we all got to participate in Tai Chi, which was exciting,” says Tule.
SouthSeas Healthcare staff enjoyed a snapshot of Chinese culture and history and some willingly tried to speak the Mandarin language and learn more about Chinese culture.
The intent is for staff to appreciate and become more culturally aware and knowledgeable of foreign languages and cultures.
Chinese Language Week is another key initiative for SouthSeas to promote the benefits and opportunities of learning and understanding more about Chinese.
New Zealand is one of the first countries to have Chinese Language Week on a national level and Chinese Language Week is held to encourage more New Zealanders to have a go at speaking Mandarin or Cantonese.
