Community generosity is helping spread Christmas joy to struggling families and individuals.

Hundreds gathered at the Vodafone Events Centre in Manukau recently to share a meal to celebrate Christmas for families who are struggling to get by.

SouthSeas Healthcare lent a helping hand.

“Our contribution was mainly our staff helping out and also delivering a small programme to the crowds waiting outside to get into the venue,” says Shaun Tautali, SouthSeas Public Health Team Leader.

“We saw an amazing collaboration of all soup kitchens around South Auckland coming together to host the very first combined Soup Kitchen Christmas dinner.”

“Hundreds of families registered and we had a contributing role in ensuring families felt welcomed when they arrive to the venue. Families arrived in cars, buses and others took a leisurely walk to the venue,” says Shaun.

SouthSeas applaud Ned and Becca So’e who are the founders of the soup kitchen.

“We have witnessed their initiative go from strength to strength with their church and community organisations playing a vital role in expanding the soup kitchen from Otara to other suburbs in South Auckland.”

“SouthSeas have been a part of the previous two Soup Kitchen dinners held in Otara,” says Shaun.

“The dinner has been amazing. It brings such joy to many families, especially the children who would otherwise get very little at this time of the year.”

“SouthSeas together with the support of Otara Blue Light ensured families queuing and waiting outside the venue were entertained by giving away free tickets to family events happening in the holidays and we even sang Christmas  carols with kids,” smiles Shaun

SouthSeas Healthcare acknowledges all those involved in the Soup Kitchen dinner, especially Life Community who have contributed to making this happen.
