Stay active with rush hour programme
11 March 2019
Start your morning with a dose of rush hour is a community exercise programme run by SouthSeas for those rush hour commuters.
SouthSeas Public Health Team Leader Shaun Tautali says those willing to join will be treated to the workout from 6.00am to 8.00am at the Otara Pool and Leisure Centre before tackling their activities of the day.
“We are dedicated to this workout regime considering the high interest from those joining our programme last year and we are willing to continue this year.”
Shaun says the Rush Hour idea urges local community members to engage in fun sports and get a good workout before their working rush starts for the day.
The fitness-fanatic community programme involves basketball, fastball, boxfit and indoor power walk for those early birds willing to work out in the morning.
Shaun says most people want to exercise in the morning to allow themselves the evening to spend time with family or children.
“This is a free community event and we encourage all South Auckland residents to join us and be part of any of our offered activities.”
“It is a 2-hour session and we allow those who join us to exercise at their own pace and we appeal to all ages. Everyone is welcome.”
The Rush Hour community programme was established almost 10 years ago by the Otara Blue Light team, which is made up of local police and community volunteers. Now sponsored by SouthSeas Healthcare, the free programme has grown providing fun and interactive activities for all ages.
A the end of last year, a Christmas breakfast was hosted by SouthSeas Healthcare to acknowledge and reward a fantastic end to the Rush Hour community programme and Shaun says the team is determined to do it all again this year.
