We celebrate International Women’s Day
18 March 2019
On Friday 8 March, SouthSeas Healthcare celebrated International Women’s Day acknowledging the mothers, aunts, sisters, wives, partners, cousins, nieces and female employees who have contributed to the SouthSeas journey.
The 2019 theme was ‘Balance for Better’, a call to action for driving gender balance, raising awareness against bias and taking action for equality.
SouthSeas Healthcare Operations Manager Solo Aiono says it is always good to pause and reflect on days like International Women’s Day, to celebrate the achievements of Pacific women and think about a call to action for gender equality.
“We salute the women of SouthSeas Healthcare for all the hard work they do serving our families and communities in South Auckland.”
In SouthSeas Healthcare, 70% of employees are female and these are great efforts toward gender balance. “We have two female employees in management roles, five team leaders and six on the SouthSeas Board of Trustees,” says Solo.
“Of the nine founding members of SouthSeas, four are women. These are influential leaders in the health sector. They are Dr Debbie Ryan, Dr Teuila Percival, Dr Florina Chan Mow and Dr Juliette Walker and we acknowledge them for their services.”
A trustee member of SouthSeas Healthcare Tofilau Bernadette Pereira is the national President of P.A.C.I.F.I.C.A Inc, a non-government organisation promoting Pasifika women across Aotearoa since its establishment in 1976.
“International Women’s Day acknowledges the hard work of all women in our organisation on whose shoulders we stand on today,” says Solo.
International Women's Day is annually held on March 8 to celebrate women's achievements throughout history and across nations.
Purple is the international colour symbolising women and events were hosted around the country to honour the contribution of women in families, organisations and society.
