Ana Tom is a Registered Comprehensive Nurse with a bachelor degree in Health Science Nursing and a Postgraduate Certificate in Well Child Specialty Nursing. She graduated as a Registered Nurse at Manukau Institute of Technology in 2003. She spent 17 years of her nursing career with Plunket. She worked as a Plunket Nurse for 3 years and was later appointed to the role of Clinical Leader in 2006, covering suburbs of South Auckland from Mangere, Papatoetoe, Franklin to Otara. She was also part of the Outreach Immunisation for Howick/Pakuranga Teams for over 13 years. As an active member of the Plunket Pasifika staff Fono, Ana was also involved in Pacific research in 2014 and participated on a number of Pacific Advisory groups to support Pacific Research. She represented Plunket at annual Pasifika events including Polyfest. She was also the Manukau Institute of Technology’s nursing student liaison and facilitator of presentations between MIT and Plunket. One of Ana’s highlights was in 2005 when she was nominated from Northern Region for the Eye Bright Award, being the recipient based on the strength of nominations from the Manurewa community acknowledging her community strength in nursing and her understanding and compassion in caring for babies, parents and families. Over the years Ana has obtained a wealth of clinical experience, knowledge and skills as well as leading successful clinical teams. Ana’s nursing career requires more direct contact with Pacific families and is the reason she has returned to Well Child nursing. She now has the opportunity to work with Pacific communities and her future goal is to become a nurse prescriber in community setting and learn more Pacific languages. Ana is NZ-born of Cook Island descent.
