Fetalaiga Lesa-Taala was born and raised in Wellington, New Zealand. She speaks Samoan and English. She moved to Auckland after nursing training in 2012. Fetalaiga is a Registered Rheumatic Fever Prevention Manakidz Nurse. Manakidz provides a team of one registered nurse and a whānau support worker (WSW) based in schools during term time. The service includes daily assessment and treatment of sore throats and skin infections. In addition, other healthcare needs can be addressed effectively, such as hearing, vision and child protection issues. A manual of operations is used by all providers and standing orders are in place for the registered nurses for treatment of defined conditions by a delegated authority.
